Brooke Butler
Bio- I grew up in a household where we didn’t really use our words to express our emotions. Growing up like this taught me to explore the methods of how I express myself. My brother and I started drawing with our uncle when he would babysit us. It was around this time that we were exposed to music like Led Zeppelin and The Smashing Pumpkins. I started doing photography when I was 14, and it helped me express myself and get out all the things I didn’t know how to say. I am now attending IUN and working towards my BA in Fine Art.
Artist statement: Inspired my movement, simplicity, nature and balance. I paint abstract scenes of nature that are created naturally by the flow of paint onto glass or paper. The colors, marks and movements are determined by whatever comes as naturally to me as possible. I was inspired by the subconscious mind and how the mind creates or represses certain things.
